On October 1, 2015, the US EPA lowered the ground-level ozone to 70 parts per billion (ppb). In addition, the EPA proposed to extend the length of the required ozone (O3) monitoring season in 32 states and the District of Columbia. Details of the new O3 standard can be found in the US EPA’s final rule on Ozone Standards .

In a few months, ozone season will be in full swing so be sure to have your analyzer up and running. Consider these 5 tips and tricks when you are preparing for ozone with your Thermo Scientific Model 49i Ozone Analyzer:
C-Series analyzers
Sales and support for the Thermo Scientific C-series Gas Analyzers will be discontinued beginning August 1, 2015.
Know the rules
Learn how to set up the Zero Air Source Option
The zero air source option is a convenient system for generating pollutant free zero gas for O3 monitoring requirements. When installing your analyzer it’s important to have your zero air source option set up correctly in order to ensure optimal calibration checks. Thermo Scientific Model 49i Ozone analyzers that have the Zero Air Option have one air regulator inside the analyzer which should always be set to 10 psi. Thermo Scientific Model 49i-PS Ozone Primary Standards have two air regulators and both should be set for 10 psi. See Model 49i Zero Air Setup technical bulletin for details.
Perform a cell A/B test
Leaks across the sample and reference solenoid valves can cause an imbalance in the concentration readings between cells caused by Teflon cold-flowing across the valve seat or by particulates on the seat. A well functioning instrument will pass the Cell A/B Test providing the operator confidence when bringing the analyzer online. See Procedure for Performing Cell A/B Test technical bulletin for step-by-step instructions on how to perform the test.
Get the latest software updates
Thermo Scientific iSeries gas analyzer firmware can be updated using Thermo Scientific iPort software. Update your iPort software to the latest version prior to updating the firmware on your gas analyzer. It’s important to always have the latest version of iPort because it will query the instrument and select the appropriate file for firmware updates automatically. Here are some resources you may find useful when upgrading the software:
Software in .zip format: Latest iPort version (1.4.2)
Technical bulletin: Windows compatibility to iPort
Software in .zip format: Gas analyzer firmware
