What are DH10B competent cells?
The DH10B strain of E. coli is a popular strain for everyday cloning applications due to its high transformation efficiency, its ability to uptake and maintain large plasmids (>30 kb), lack of methylation-dependent restriction systems (MDRS), and blue-white colony screening. DH10B can intake genomic DNA which differentiates it from the DH5α strain. The full DH10B genome was sequenced and published by Durfee et al. in 2008 [1].
Benefits of DH10B competent cells
- Genomic mutations make these ideal for transformation of cDNA and genomic DNA libraries
- Blue-white screening for easy identification of colonies with recombinant DNA
- Available in chemical or electrocompetent format
