The Thermo Scientific Powdertainer II BioProcess Container (BPC) is specifically designed for powder containment and discharge applications. It maintains a closed system for maximum recovery of powder while minimizing the risk of cross-contamination.
Key features and accessories of the Powdertainer II
Key features
- Designed for powder containment and discharge applications
- Employs a closed system to help minimize dust contaminant and cross-contamination risk
- 3-inch tri-clamp port designed for secure connection to, and easy integration with, existing formulation vessels
- Suspensor handle for support during discharge
- Neck clamp to retain powder prior to discharge
- Two models, including one with a washdown line to remove residual powder enabling maximal recovery
- Three sizes for process flexibility: 1, 5, and 25 kg
- Constructed from CX3-9 film
- Stainless steel filling stand to facilitate powder discharge process
Design features
The Powdertainer II BPC is optimized for handling powdered media (see figure).
- Handle for support during emptying
- Tube with CPC connector to wash down and remove any powder residue
- Clamp to retain powder prior to emptying
- 3-inch tri-clamp connection for secure connection to formulation vessel

The filling stand is specifically designed for use with Powdertainer II BPCs. The filling stand with casters aids in the loading of powder into the BPC (see figure). The filling stand is manufactured from 304 stainless steel. OperationThe Powdertainer II BPC is initially connected to the filling stand. This is done by clamping the 3-inch powder port to the filling funnel using the 3-inch tri-clamp connector provided on the filling stand. Elastic support straps with hooks (11-inch, available in home improvement stores) are used to support the weight of the powder when filling the Powdertainer II BPC. One end of the elastic support strap should be hooked to the support pin of the filling stand, while the other end should be hooked through the prepunched holes in the edge of the Powdertainer II BPC. | Figure 2.
