Analyses of small traces of natural origin, such as human and animal hair, insects, plants, diatoms, are often critical in establishing a suspect’s presence at a crime scene. To be able to use these results in criminal investigations and trials, the imaging and analysis of such samples require a higher resolution and magnification than provided by light microscopes.
