A mixed population of live and isopropyl alcohol–killed Micrococcus luteus stained with SYTOX® Blue nucleic acid stain (Cat. no. S11348), which does not penetrate intact plasma membranes. Dead cells exhibit bright blue-fluorescent staining. The image was acquired using a longpass optical filter set appropriate for the Cascade Blue® dye.
