Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are not only prevalent, but can be recurrent, chronic, and even lethal. Dedicated research using the correct tools for identifying the cause of infection is key to combatting them effectively.
While most common UTIs may be discovered with culture-based methods, the detection of severe, higher-risk UTIs benefits from the added assurance of real-time PCR (qPCR) technology.
PCR, when combined with standard culture methods, allows for a level of sensitivity that can uncover the more dangerous, complicated infections that might otherwise be missed. In addition, because PCR can detect and identify multiple targets, it can reveal the specific pathogens causing the infection and ensure the correct methods are used to combat them. This specificity is a benefit for mitigating all UTIs, especially when choosing an appropriate antibiotic, should one be needed.
Applied Biosystems Urinary Research Panels are real-time PCR panels designed to enable rapid analysis of a wide range of urinary tract microbiota in a scalable, low-cost per sample format in under five hours.
Applied Biosystems TrueMark real-time PCR solution are part of a sample-to-results workflow. Benefits include the ability to:
